The research findings of the Culturally Relevant Schools (CRE4ALL) project, conducted at TED University Faculty of Education under the leadership of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sibel Akın-Sabuncu, were presented at the 14th International Congress on Curriculum and Instruction (ICCI-EPOK 2026), held in Sivas, Türkiye, on October 8–10, 2026.
In the oral presentation titled “Educators’ Learning to Recognize the Cultural Wealth of Immigrant and Refugee Families and Communities,” the project team explored how primary school teachers, school counselors, and school administrators who participated in the culturally relevant professional development program developed as part of CRE4ALL became more aware of the cultural resources and assets of immigrant and refugee students and their families, and how this awareness was reflected in their educational practices.
The presentation further emphasized that the culturally relevant professional development program went beyond simply increasing educators’ knowledge of cultural differences. It provided opportunities for educators to critically examine their existing assumptions, engage in dialogue across professional roles, reflect critically on their practices, and collaboratively develop school-level action plans. In this context, the presentation also highlighted that culturally relevant education is a shared responsibility among all school stakeholders, including teachers, school counselors, and school administrators.
The CRE4ALL project will continue its intensive efforts in research, implementation, and dissemination throughout the year, contributing to the development of culturally relevant and inclusive school environments! @TEDUEgitim @KültüreDuyarlıOkullarProjesi
